Professor Anita Thapar
Professor Anita Thapar FRCPsych is Professor in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Cardiff. Professor Thapar trained in Medicine in Cardiff and graduated in 1985 after which she undertook clinical training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in South Wales. She was then awarded an MRC Research Training Fellowship during which she undertook a PhD examining the contribution of genetic and environmental influences to childhood psychopathology. She was then appointed as Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester in 1996. Her molecular genetics research studies began in 1997 and continued after moving to Cardiff to take up a Chair in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Professor Thapar has published many papers on the contribution of genes and environmental influences on child psychopathology. Professor Thapar still continues a specialist clinic for children with neuropsychiatric disorders (mainly autism and ADHD) and retains an active interest in clinical issues. Professor Thapar has previously served on the Wellcome Trust Neurosciences Panel.
