Peer Review
All research funded by Autistica is subject to rigorous peer review and each proposal received is read, evaluated and scored on its merits by an independent reviewer and by a distinguished Scientific Review Panel, which makes recommendations to Autistica’s Trustees regarding funding decisions.
Autistica relies heavily on, and is greatly appreciative of, the goodwill and willingness of those members of the research community who generously and freely give their time to conduct and support this peer review process, including the members of the Scientific Review Panel and independent external reviewers.

In Spring 2011 Professor Sir Michael Rutter retired from his role as Chair of Autistica’s Scientific Review Panel. Autistica is most grateful to Professor Sir Michael Rutter for serving as the first Chair, a role that was of extraordinary importance in the evolution of Autistica as the charity moved from fund raiser to funder of autism research in the UK. His expertise so freely given, enabled the establishment of peer review processes that are rigorous yet thorough, fair and transparent. Autistica is poised for growth and these strong scientific review mechanisms underpin this. Without Professor Sir Michael Rutter’s support as Chair, there is no doubt that we could not have come so far, so fast. Professor Sir Michael Rutter will continue to support Autistica both as our Patron and also more informally. |
