Nepal

Autism is a distant stranger in Nepal, even to the medical fraternity. The prevalence of Autism in Nepal is unknown as no authentic study has been conducted in this region. Autism Care Nepal is a small organisation started by parents of children with Autism on 2 April 2008, the auspicious occasion of the World Autism Awareness Day. It is situated at Gairidhara, Kathmandu and it is the only active autism organisation in Nepal that is run by passionate parents that care for autistic children. The centre facilitates newly diagnosed parents with counselling on autism. It runs a training programme called "mother-child program" offering short-term training to parents, especially mothers; empowering them with knowledge of autism and also skill of ABA. We have team of Paediatricians, Child Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist and a team of trained mothers from Action for Autism, New Delhi; who have been giving service at our centre in different level. A day care center aiming to expand as a specialised school for children with autism is underway. ACN is also moving slowly toward developing School and Home for children with Autism. ACN is also developing specialised professionals to take care and teach children with Autism. ACN is trying to conduct scientific studies in association with foreign friends in the field of Autism. Children with communication and social skill impairment according to their developmental age need to be screened to rule out autism. With above message we are organising a talk programme on 2nd April 2010, to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day and also spread the message about Autism in Nepal.

To create awareness about autism Destination organised a colourful cultural evening where 55 autistic children took part along with reputed celebraty artist of Assam.Honorable Minister of Social welfare,Assam Shri Akon Bora presented on the occassion.a megazine "Ahbaan" was released in the function.
