What is the study about?
Children on the autism spectrum often find uncertainty hard to manage which can lead to anxiety.
This study is about an intervention developed by researchers at Newcastle University to help parents of children on the autism spectrum to support their child to cope with situations where there is some uncertainty.
The researchers want to know if this intervention is feasible and acceptable to parents. This is an important step that needs to be done before a bigger study can test if it works.
What would I have to do if I took part?
We would ask you to complete some questionnaires and an interview. We will also ask your child to complete two questionnaires. These questionnaires have been used previously with children on the autism spectrum and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. This would take place in your home or at somewhere that is convenient for you.
After completing these steps, you would attend 8 group sessions to learn about autism. You would either attend a group based on the intervention being tested by a researcher or a different programme. The group you are invited to will be randomly decided by a computer.
