Last year, Autistica Play Ambassador, Jade, took part in our first Autistica Play: Relax Mode event. It was her first time fundraising through streaming! Jade played Gears Of War 5 and raised over £180. Here she shares her top tips:

  1. Explain what you’re fundraising for and why. Use stats and factual information. Keep it short and sweet - don’t write long paragraphs and text, bullet point where you can.
  2. Make the event details clear. Make sure your donors know where you’re streaming, the time and date and most importantly where they can donate!
  3. Know your platforms and what works for you. Twitch, Tiltify, Mixer? There are so many awesome ones to choose from, but make sure you’re comfortable with them.
  4. Link accounts. Try and make sure that your streaming account is linked to your donations account or vice versa, if they can donate at more than one place, make it clear and don’t confuse anyone!
  5. Do all your checks beforehand. Make sure your tech is working - check your audio, video quality and account linking.
  6. Keep sharing and ask people to share. Even if they can’t donate - remember to use social media and make all your posts public.
  7. Ask for help. Perhaps you can fundraise as a team with friends or family!
  8. Add incentives. This is fun for your audience and you! For example: if I reach £100, I’ll play this game...
  9. Don’t take it to heart. Some people might not have much to give, but encourage people to donate whatever they can afford and remember to personally thank them if they do.
  10. Have fun with it! At the end of the day it’s about having fun whilst raising money for a great cause. Don’t worry if you don’t raise big bucks, any money raised is great!
