Kemi Badenoch's comments are part of a damaging and, unfortunately, growing trend where people attempt to use issues like autism and neurodiversity to gain political capital by making overly simplistic and ignorant assumptions.

Not only has Badenoch completely misapplied the terminology around neurodiversity, these arguments don't reflect the nuanced situation that we currently face, nor do they reflect the growing injustices that autistic people face.

If Badenoch and the signatories of Conservatism in Crisis are actually committed to finding a proper way forward, then they should engage with charities like Autistica who are serious about implementing sustainable solutions for autistic people and society, instead of making unhelpful and stigmatising arguments that are frankly so transparently reductionist to the point of being boring.
