Here, we explain the key terms in the Autistica Tips Hub and user guide to help you get the best experience using the app.
+
To add your tip for others to see, click the button with a plus sign in the tips feature. All tips are moderated by Autistica to keep app users safe.
...
The additional actions button can be found on the top right of individual resources and tips and gives additional options for interacting with them, such as flagging and reporting content.
Block account
If you do not want to see any more tips from a particular user, you can block their account.
Bookmarks
Registered users can bookmark specific resources or tips they want to save for later reference or reading by clicking the green bookmark icon on the bottom right. Bookmarked tips and resources can be accessed by clicking the 'bookmarks' screen at the top right of the resources and tips sections.
Please note that unregistered users cannot bookmark resources or tips and therefore will not have anything displaying on these screens.
Filter
All users can organise the resources they see by topic. To view resources on specific topics, select the topic tags beneath the search bar.
Hide
If you want to hide a particular tip or resource, use this feature so that it will no longer appear in the app for you.
Hyperlinks
Each resource contains a hyperlink to access external content. Some tips may also contain hyperlinks. All external links have been reviewed by the Autistica team and are safe to access from your device.
I found this sensitive
If you find a resource or tip that contains sensitive content and it doesn’t have a pink warning tag, use this feature to let the moderators know that it contains information that others may also find sensitive so that one can be added.
Report
If you see a tip or resource that requires immediate action from the moderation team (for example, it is inaccurate or offensive), please use the report button to tell us.
Please note that this is for urgent action only. If there are resources that you think contain sensitive content, please use the “I found this sensitive” button instead.
Resources
The Tips Hub has a list of carefully selected, high-quality resources on a range of topics so users can find information and help.
Review score
The Autistica science team review resources, to ensure that they are meaningful, relevant and accurate. The score is an objective rating from a standard tool we use to evaluate the quality of information the resource provides. A higher score shows higher quality. Tap the ‘Review score’ tag on a specific resource to learn more about its rating and more information about each category.
Search bar
This is a box at the top of the Resources and Tips features. To use it, type in a word or phrase you want to find, click the magnifying glass icon, and relevant results will be displayed.
Sensitivity and preferences
Resources and tips that include sensitive content are flagged using the pink ‘sensitive content’ tag. You can set your sensitivity preferences when you sign up to control what topics you see. For example, if you would prefer not to see resources that include content about self-harm or suicide, you can select these options from the list. These can be changed at any time in your user profile.
Tips
The app users generate tips. They are individual and personal suggestions to help autistic people, families and professionals, and should not be considered a substitute for medical or professional advice. A member of the Autistica team will approve each tip within the Tips Hub. If you are concerned that a tip is inaccurate or harmful, you can report it for further moderation.
Upvote
In addition to the review score, users can show how helpful a resource has been by upvoting it. If you have found a resource helpful, click the green arrow on the bottom left of the resource to upvote it. Please note you cannot change an upvote, which means it is set once you click the button.
Please note that unregistered users cannot upvote resources or tips. They can still see what has been upvoted by other users.
User profile
This feature is for registered users only. Your user profiles allow you to change your name, picture, personal information and sensitivity preferences to customise your experience using the Tips Hub app.
